In 1915 three
2ft gauge locomotives were built for the Hampton Water works
system of the Metropolitan Water Board. They hauled coal
from wharves on the River Thames to the boiler houses until
the railway was closed. Named 'Hampton', 'Kempton' and 'Sunbury',
they were resplendent with polished brass dome, safety valves
and boiler bands.
Although
the locos have all been scrapped, efforts are being made
to re-open the railway with alternative motive power. Email

Our kit is designed to fit the Bachmann 0-4-0 chassis, the Ibertren Cuckoo chassis or the Fleishmann 0-4-0T. The kit includes pony wheel, handrails and coupling blocks. |
In 1904 Nasmyth Wilson of Manchester built a series of locomotives for the opening of the Cyprus Government Railway. This 2ft 6in gauge line ran from Famagusta to Nicosia, then on to the foothills of the Troodos mountains at Evrykhou. The locomotives were based on standard boilers and running gear. 'Troodos' represents the pair of 4-4-0 tender engines built for the passenger services. They were very similar to many other colonial locos supplied to places such as South Africa. During the WW2 period they were converted to oil firing and served the railway until it closed in 1951. Unfortunately none have survived.
Our kit is designed to fit the Bachmann/Graham Farish 4-4-0 chassis. It includes tender wheels, handrails and coupling blocks. |
Two locos, Nos 21 and 22, were built in 1904 for the opening of the line. while at a later date No. 23 was assembled from spare parts. They were built for mixed traffic and so would have hauled both passenger and freight trains.
They were built with round topped boilers but later rebuilt with Belpaire fireboxes, which is the form we have modeled them in. Later alterations included coal rails and then oil firing. All three locos were scrapped in 1959 when the railway closed.
Our kit is designed to fit the Bachmann/Graham Farish prairie chassis and includes tender wheels, handrails and coupling blocks. |
