Fifty built 1910/12 with four sliding doors in the brake van. Formed into 25 four car sets SR Nos 101-121/159-162 with Diag 264 48ft 2 lav Tricomposite (kit 4C2) and Diag 263 48ft 4 lav Bicomposite (kit 4C19).

In S.R. days the 48 footers were replaced with one Diag 285 58ft lav Composite (kit 4C108). They ran all over former LSWR territory until late 1957 on semifast and cross-country services.

Thirty were built 1912/13 with two sliding doors in the brake van. Originally formed into three and four car sets SR Nos 122- 129/152-158 with Diag 264 48ft 2 lav Tricomposite (Kit 4C2) and Diag 263 48ft4 lav Bicomposite (Kit 4C1 9). In S.R. days the centre coaches were replaced with one Diag 285 58ft lav Composite (Kit 4C108). Ran all over former LSWR territory until late 1957 on semifast and cross-country services.

In 1939 six were formed into 2 coach local and branch set nos 57-62, three with Diag 286 58ft composites (Kit4Cl08) and three with Diag 287 58ft Composites (Kit 4C104).Another six were rebuilt to push-pull driving trailers (Kit 4C27) and put in set nos 31 -36, again paired with Diag 286 (Kit 4C108) or Diag 287 (Kit 4C104).

Between 1906 and 1910 the LSWR built 37 standard sets for semi-fast main line and cross country services. They were formed — Brake Third(4C24) + 2nd/3rd Composite (4C25) + 1st/3rd Composite (4C26) + Brake Third (4C24). From 1935 the 2nd/3rd compos, by now thirds, were removed from the sets and were used loose.

The three car sets remained in service until 1957.

Two were included in each set Many to engineers service in the 1950's One preserved on the Bluebell Railway.

One included in each 4 car set Downgraded to all Third 1916. Removed from sets from 1935 onwards Used as loose coaches and later in excursion sets.

One included in each 4 car and 3 car set. Remained in sets until withdrawn. Some to engineers use or camping coaches. One is preserved on the K.E.S.R.
