SECR
BIRDCAGE SETS |
|
In 1912 the S.E.C.R introduced their final design to incorporate the famous 'birdcage' brake end. These 60ft long coaches were all formed into 3 car sets of Brake Third/Composite/Brake Composite. There were two types of composite centre coach, both of which are available. The SR converted one set into two push-pull trains for branch line service and one of these is also modelled.
The sets appeared over a very wide area right up to 1959 when electrification cascaded modern stock into their workings. They were not only used on the former SECR lines in Kent, but also the Hastings line, the LBSCR lines in West Sussex and the Tonbridge, Redhill, Reading line.
In 4mm scale the basic kits do not include partitions, door handles, grab handles and other detail fittings. These are supplied on the Detailing Kit 4A252, which has enough parts to complete a three car set.
